Nearly 1,000 Former Migrant Workers and Citizens Attend Technical Skills Training Forum in Battambang

A forum focusing on employment, social security, and vocational training was held in Battambang province, western Cambodia, from July 17-18. The event attracted approximately 1,000 participants, including former migrant workers returning from Thailand and local residents, who actively sought employment opportunities and expressed interest in acquiring technical skills. According to Sun Mesa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, a total of 952 individuals attended the forum. Participants not only engaged in job searching but also gained a deeper understanding of the benefits of the social security system and the opportunities available for free technical and vocational training courses. A proactive attitude towards future career development was particularly evident among former Thai migrant workers and residents. As a result of the forum, 64 individuals registered for technical and vocational training courses, and 188 people (preliminary figure) received job offers from participating companies, factories, and enterprises. This indicates a growing alignment between local labor demand and the skilled workforce being developed through training. Sun Mesa urged former Thai migrant workers and citizens who could not attend this event to contact the hotline number 1297 for information on free technical and vocational training and employment opportunities. This initiative aims to facilitate the re-employment and upskilling of experienced workers, both domestically and internationally, thereby contributing to Cambodia's economic development.
