Kuta Police Criminal Investigation Chief Tests Positive for Drugs in Bali
The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kuta Police in Bali tested positive for ecstasy during a surprise drug test, underscoring the police's commitment to eradicating drug abuse within its ranks through enhanced random checks.
DENPASAR - The head of the Kuta Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Iptu MDP, has tested positive for ecstasy following a surprise urine test conducted by the Narcotics Investigation Directorate in conjunction with the Bali Police's Professional and Security Division. According to Head of Public Relations of the Bali Police, Kombes Ariasandy, the police officer is currently secured and undergoing examination at the Propam Unit of the Bali Police for alleged drug abuse. MDP was apprehended during a surprise and closed examination where several members were summoned for urine sample tests at the Bali Police Headquarters on June 8, 2026. "This activity took place simultaneously and suddenly. We called several members for urine sample tests. From the results of the examination, one member was indicated to be positive," Ariasandy stated, as reported by ANTARA on Tuesday, July 7. He explained that the examination stemmed from routine internal oversight conducted by the Bali Regional Police to anticipate drug abuse within the police environment. The urine test was administered by the Narcotics and Propam Division of the Bali Police. The examination targeted not only a number of members but also the leaders of the Bali Police. "Some time ago, urine tests were also carried out on the Bali Police Chief, the Bali Deputy Police Chief, and all the main officials of the Bali Police," he added. Ariasandy further detailed that the urine test results showed MDP was positive for ecstasy-type narcotics. However, he was unable to provide details on how long MDP had been using narcotics or where the substances were obtained, as the matter is still under investigation by Propam investigators. "Regarding the depth of that, I have to ask first. The most important thing is that when the urine was tested, the result was positive for ecstasy," he said. The former Head of Public Relations of the NTT Police confirmed that MDP is still detained and being investigated by the Propam Unit of the Bali Police. MDP remains listed as the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kuta Police, but his position status will be evaluated based on the examination results and the severity of the violation committed. According to Ariasandy, members proven to have violated will undergo disciplinary and code of ethics processes specific to the police profession. Furthermore, criminal sanctions or dismissal without honor (PTDH) are not impossible if the violation meets the stipulated provisions. "It depends on the level of violation committed. The penalty can be disciplinary, code of ethics, even dismissal or criminal prosecution," he added. Ariasandy also noted that over the past two years, the Bali Police have not imposed disciplinary sanctions or dismissals against members involved in drug abuse. However, internal checks will continue to be tightened to prevent similar cases from recurring. He emphasized the Bali Police's commitment to a drug-free internal environment, with random urine tests to be consistently conducted on personnel across all ranks, from police stations to the regional police level. "Hopefully, with the members we are following, this will have a deterrent effect so that members do not do or try to do the same thing," he concluded.
