Ho Chi Minh City Guides Implementation of Government Decree on Rooftop Solar Power
Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation is promoting the adoption of rooftop solar power based on a government decree, aiming to expand renewable energy and enhance energy security. The focus is on public awareness and support systems for citizens and businesses.
The Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC), in coordination with the Department of Industry and Trade of the city, organized an online conference to guide the implementation of Government Decree No. 243/2023/NĐ-CP, dated June 26, 2023, on direct electricity purchase and sale mechanisms and the development of renewable and new energy. This decree aims to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy in Vietnam, particularly encouraging the installation of rooftop solar power systems. EVNHCMC provided detailed guidance to stakeholders on the specific implementation procedures of the decree, including technical requirements for citizens and businesses installing solar power systems, and contract procedures with the power company. The Vietnamese government is seeking to meet the increasing electricity demand driven by economic growth while simultaneously ensuring energy security and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Expanding the use of renewable energy, especially solar power, is considered a key strategy for achieving these dual objectives. As Vietnam's largest economic hub and a densely populated city, Ho Chi Minh City has significant potential for rooftop solar power. This briefing aims to broadly disseminate the decree's contents and reduce installation barriers, thereby promoting voluntary installations by citizens and businesses.
