New Cyprus Ambassador Pledges to Boost Cambodia Cooperation in Culture, Economy
The newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Cambodia expressed a strong commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation in culture, people-to-people exchanges, and the economy. Cambodia's Acting Head of State, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, welcomed the ambassador and expressed optimism for enhanced relations.
The newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Kingdom of Cambodia, H.E. Koula Sophianou, has affirmed her commitment to striving to expand and strengthen relations between the two countries, particularly through seeking opportunities to enhance cooperation in culture, people-to-people exchanges, and the economy. This was reported by H.E. Chea Thireth, Spokesperson of the Senate, following a courtesy call and presentation of credentials by H.E. Koula Sophianou to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on the afternoon of September 17, 2026, at the Peace Palace. During the meeting, Samdech Techo, Acting Head of State, on behalf of His Majesty the King, welcomed and congratulated H.E. Koula Sophianou on her appointment as Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Kingdom of Cambodia. Samdech Techo expressed hope that during her diplomatic mission, H.E. Koula Sophianou will contribute to further strengthening and developing bilateral relations between Cambodia and Cyprus. Concurrently, H.E. Koula Sophianou expressed her gratitude to Samdech Techo for granting her the audience for the presentation of credentials and courtesy call. She expressed her respect for Samdech Techo as a prominent figure both nationally and internationally and highlighted the good relations between Cambodia and Cyprus. On this occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his satisfaction with H.E. Koula Sophianou's remarks and considered cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, and investment as a key element in promoting relations between the two countries. Samdech Techo, the Acting Head of State, also encouraged Cambodia and Cyprus to continue seeking new opportunities and mechanisms to further develop bilateral investment and trade. Samdech Techo also expressed hope that the Republic of Cyprus will have the opportunity and capability to increase investment in Cambodia, which will contribute to strengthening economic relations between the two countries.
