Vietnam Strengthens Global Ties Through Multifaceted Diplomacy, Economy, and Security

Vietnam is actively pursuing multifaceted and proactive diplomacy to strengthen its global ties. In recent years, bilateral trade with Italy has approached US$8 billion, with Italy remaining Vietnam’s third-largest trading partner within the European Union. Efforts are also underway to enhance defense cooperation between the two nations, with expectations for continued support for the Vietnamese Defence Attaché Office's operations in Italy. The relationship with India is built on traditional friendship, solidarity, mutual support, and high political trust, having been elevated to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This was a significant milestone during the visit of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam to India in May 2026. Relations with Thailand are also deemed politically and economically crucial, with the royal couple's visit to Vietnam signifying a continuation of the friendship between the two countries. Both nations are committed to strengthening economic connectivity, aiming to increase bilateral trade from the current US$22 billion to US$25 billion. Furthermore, Vietnam regards Saudi Arabia as one of its most important partners in the Middle East, seeking to deepen bilateral relations. Discussions with Burundi have focused on expanding cooperation in telecommunications, particularly with Lumitel, a joint venture by Vietnam's Viettel Group. With Ethiopia, Vietnam is exploring trade and investment opportunities as a key partner in Africa. Domestically, there is a call for effective measures to enable Party members to address new issues related to ownership, production organization, distribution, and responsibilities within the socialist-oriented market economy. Vietnam also reaffirms its commitment to playing a responsible role in the international community, upholding international law, fostering trust, and making joint efforts to tackle common challenges. These diplomatic activities contribute to Vietnam's proactive international integration policy and enhance its role and standing regionally and globally. The nation aims to pursue a people-centric development model, ensuring harmony among economic growth, social equity, and environmental protection.
