Cambodia and Malaysia Affirm Strong Partnership Ahead of 70th Diplomatic Anniversary

Cambodia and Malaysia have reaffirmed their strong partnership, agreeing to further strengthen their friendship as they approach the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. This was stated by Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn during a courtesy call on Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim on the afternoon of August 3, 2026, in Kuala Lumpur. The Cambodian top diplomat stated that as both Cambodia and Malaysia will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2027, Cambodia is fully prepared to cooperate closely with Malaysia to further enhance their partnership. He added that the partnership between Cambodia and Malaysia will also continue to contribute to the peace, stability, and prosperity of ASEAN. During the meeting, Mr. Prak Sokhonn also expressed gratitude for Malaysia's active role in maintaining long-term peace and stability in the region, especially in resolving the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict through the Kuala Lumpur Peace Agreement and the establishment of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT). It is noteworthy that Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn is on an official visit to Malaysia, responding to an invitation from his Malaysian counterpart. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during this visit, Mr. Prak Sokhonn will co-chair with Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan the Joint Commission meeting between the two countries to discuss the strengthening and expansion of bilateral cooperation.
