First Lady Liza Proud of Marcos' SONA, Highlights West Philippine Sea Stance

First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos on Tuesday expressed admiration for her husband, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., after delivering his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA). In a Facebook post, the First Lady said that every SONA reminds her of the “countless hours, the sacrifices, and the heart [her] husband pours into serving our country.” “I couldn’t be prouder of the man he is and the leader he strives to be,” Liza Marcos said. “His greatest wish has always been simple —to make life a little easier and a little better for every Filipino family,” she added. In a separate Facebook post, the First Lady also shared that she became emotional during President Marcos’ SONA, specifically when he talked about the country’s ongoing stand in the West Philippine Sea. “Couldn’t help but shed a tear as I listened to my husband deliver his SONA. When he said, ‘We are respectful, we are dignified … and we do not yield,’ I felt the weight of every challenge, every sacrifice and every prayer that brought us to this moment,” she said. The President on Monday vowed to use all peaceful and legal means available to uphold the landmark 2016 arbitral ruling that invalidated China’s sweeping claims over nearly the entire South China Sea. He also issued a stern reminder to the country’s friends and detractors---that Filipinos are a noble, kind, gracious, and a great race. “We are not greedy. We are not racists. We are not liars. We are respectful, and we are dignified. We are Filipinos, and we do not yield,” Bongbong Marcos said in his fifth SONA. The remarks drew loud applause and a standing ovation from those gathered at the plenary hall of the House of Representatives at the Batasang Pambansa. —RF, GMA News
