Cambodia PM Clarifies New Banknotes Aimed at Security, Not Financial Distress

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has clarified that the issuance of new 50,000 and 100,000 riel banknotes is intended to enhance security and replace worn-out currency, not a sign of economic crisis. Approximately 435 million old banknotes were destroyed between May and September 2026.
