Preah Vihear Province Holds Religious Ceremony, Underscoring Government Support for Buddhism
A ceremony was held in Cambodia's Preah Vihear province, with provincial officials and citizens participating in the offering of candles and donations to monks for their use during the Buddhist Lent period. This event highlights the promotion of Buddhism, the state religion, and the government's commitment to religious protection.
Preah Vihear Province, Cambodia -- On August 7, 2026, a religious ceremony aimed at promoting Buddhism was held in Kulen district, Preah Vihear province. The event was attended by Mr. Sous Sok Dara, head of the provincial working group for Kulen district support, Mr. Nob Vuthy, deputy governor of Preah Vihear province, along with numerous leaders, public officials, and citizens. Participants offered candles, donations, lamp oil, and other necessities to the monks residing at Wat Po Prie Muong (Temple of Five Thousand Poplar Trees) in Kulen district's Tumbon commune. These offerings are intended for the monks' use during the three-month Rains Retreat (Vassa). The ceremony was highlighted as not only an act of accumulating religious merit but also as a demonstration of strong solidarity between the Buddhist clergy and the secular realm, emphasizing the importance of preserving the nation's culture, traditions, and religious beliefs. It also reflected the active participation of leaders and local authorities in supporting the development and sustainability of Buddhism, the state religion. During the event, participants jointly prayed for long life, beauty, health, and strength – the four blessings of Buddhism – for the residents of Kulen district and for all Cambodian people.
