Cambodia Partners with Chinese Firm for Smart Transport Technology

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in smart transport technology with Guangdong Hongsheng Technology Co., Ltd. of China on the afternoon of August 31, 2026. The MOU aims to establish a framework for cooperation between the Ministry and the company to study, explore, and promote the implementation of smart transport technologies suitable for Cambodia, particularly those related to the management of overloaded vehicles. The cooperation will focus on the exchange of technical experience and knowledge, feasibility studies, technology demonstrations, training, and capacity building of relevant officials. This collaboration is expected to support the modernization of weighbridge station management and the development of a more efficient, transparent, and data-driven system for managing overloaded vehicles. During the ceremony, HE Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, requested that the relevant leadership and the company collaborate with high attention to studying and preparing solutions using technology as an additional mechanism to curb violations of overloaded transport. He also encouraged the company to contribute to enhancing human resource capacity building and increasing its technological expertise in Cambodia. HE Minister Peng Ponea expressed his admiration and high appreciation for the expert team of the Ministry and the Guangdong Hongsheng Technology Co., Ltd. for their diligent efforts and high commitment in cooperating and discussing to prepare this MOU. This partnership signifies Cambodia's commitment to infrastructure development and logistics efficiency, further deepening technological cooperation with China. The enhanced control of overloaded vehicles is a pressing issue for road infrastructure protection and traffic safety, making the adoption of advanced technologies highly anticipated.
