School Van Slams into Power Pole in Pathum Thani, 13 Injured
A school van crashed into a power pole in Pathum Thani province on the morning of July 6, resulting in injuries to 12 male high school students and the driver. Driver drowsiness is suspected as a cause.
A SCHOOL VAN crashed into a power pole in Pathum Thani province early this morning (July 6) leading to 12 male high school students and the driver getting injured, Amarin TV said. At 7.30 a.m. Pol. Lt. Col. Namchok Duangsuwan, investigating officer at Pak Khlong Rangsit police station, was alerted of this accident on a road within Muang Ek housing estate, Lak Hok subdistrict, Mueang district, and quickly rushed to the scene with some traffic policemen plus Ruam Katanyu Foundation and Hongsakul rescuers. At the scene, they found the school van with a red licence plate belonging to Wat Nawong School severely damaged after crashing into the power pole, causing it to snap and fall. Found injured were 12 of 17 male high school students as well as the van driver with rescuers quickly transporting them to various hospitals, including Krung Siam Saint Carlos, Paolo Rangsit, and Rangsit Medical. One of the students said the driver appeared drowsy and upon reaching the accident site suddenly swerved to avoid a trailer-truck parked by the roadside thus losing control and slamming into the utility pole. When the van came to a stop, his friends quickly opened the door and ran out, and he too did so as he was sitting in front and saw sparks flying.
