Cambodia Continues to Raise Thai Aggression at Francophonie Forum Despite Thai Obstruction Efforts

Cambodia's Ambassador to France, Mr. Louy Davit, has continued to expose the aggressive actions of the Thai military, which are violating Cambodia's sovereign territory, during forums of the Francophonie organization. Despite Thailand's consistent attempts to obstruct Cambodia from discussing this border dispute issue in the Francophonie forum, Cambodia remains firm in its stance. At the 260th meeting of the Political Committee of the International Organization of La Francophonie in Paris on September 9, 2026, Mr. Louy Davit clearly stated the Thai invasion of Cambodia and expressed concerns about the ongoing situation, even after a ceasefire had been established. He emphasized that Thailand continues to engage in illegal activities within Cambodian territory by installing barbed wire, containers, and other infrastructure, which he claims constitutes a severe violation of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Addressing the Francophonie forum, the Cambodian Ambassador stated that these actions are hindering the return of approximately 20,000 Cambodian refugees to their homes, preventing many children from returning to school and living safely in their communities. From the forum, Mr. Louy Davit called for Thailand to withdraw its forces from areas within Cambodian territory and dismantle the infrastructure erected there, to allow refugees to return home safely and with dignity. Cambodia firmly opposes any alteration of the de facto situation on the ground that has been occupied by military forces. Cambodia asserts that all disputes must be resolved peacefully, in accordance with international law and the existing legal framework between the two countries. Mr. Louy Davit further urged Thailand to demonstrate its willingness and to re-engage without delay in the work of defining and demarcating the border through the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Border Commission (JBC), in line with the commitment made in the Joint Statement of December 27, 2025. According to reports from the Cambodian Embassy in France regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border issue, several countries have expressed support, calling on both nations to strictly adhere to the ceasefire and resolve disputes peacefully in accordance with international law and existing agreements. Notably, the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict has consistently seen Thai parties attempting to block Cambodia from raising the issue in international forums. As revealed by Mr. Louy Davit, Thai diplomats have even sought to persuade third-country diplomats to urge him not to raise the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute at the Francophonie forum. However, such intentions have not been able to deter Cambodia. Mr. Louy Davit, Cambodia's Ambassador to France, responded that Thailand has invaded Cambodia and is also attempting to distort the truth, turning black into white and white into black.
