Prabowo Announces Plan to Build Thousands of Fishing Vessels Starting 2027
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto highlighted the weakness of the nation's fishing fleet and announced a plan to build thousands of fishing vessels for domestic fishermen starting in 2027. This initiative aims to strengthen the local fishing industry and counter foreign vessels exploiting marine wealth.
President Prabowo Subianto has highlighted the weakness of Indonesia's fishing fleet in the midst of its vast maritime territory, announcing a plan to build thousands of fishing vessels for domestic fishermen starting in 2027. Prabowo conveyed the plan during the 100th Anniversary Thanksgiving Reception of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor in Ponorogo, East Java. "Starting next year, we will build thousands of fishing boats for our fishermen," Prabowo stated. He noted that fishermen have not received support commensurate with the potential of Indonesian waters. Furthermore, Prabowo claimed that tens of thousands of foreign ships operate in Indonesian waters every night, taking national marine wealth without any measures. "Tens of thousands of foreign ships are in the Indonesian sea every night. Tens of thousands of our marine wealth are taken without any measures," he said. While Prabowo did not specify the number of fishing boats to be built, their size, budget, or placement, he confirmed that the fleet development would commence next year as part of the government's policy to strengthen domestic fishermen. Previously, Prabowo had also stated the government's intention to expand the development of fishing villages and the provision of fishing and storage facilities. Source: VOI English
