Military Junta Government is Not Making Efforts to Suppress Drug Business, US Government Lists It as Blacklisted

The United States has blacklisted Myanmar, stating that the military under the junta government led by General Min Aung Hlaing has not made efforts to suppress the drug business and is deeply involved in the production or transit of narcotics, according to the White House. The list of countries responsible for the import and transit of illicit drugs into the United States, designated by US President Trump, includes 23 countries, released yesterday, September 16. Among these 23 countries, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Bolivia, and Colombia have been noted for significantly failing to meet their obligations under international drug control agreements in the past year. "Myanmar and Afghanistan have significantly failed to meet their obligations regarding drug control," US President Donald Trump further decided. The announcement stated that the Myanmar military has made negligible efforts to suppress the drug business, leading Myanmar to become one of the world's largest opium-producing and methamphetamine-producing and distributing countries. US President Trump stated that the continued provision of US assistance to Myanmar and Colombia is currently of great importance to the national interests of the United States. The US President's statement on combating drugs also includes India and China, mentioning efforts to enhance the investigation of illicit opium cultivation and the production of chemical precursors. The announcement informed the Indian government to address illicit opium cultivation, enhance the scrutiny of the supply chain, and continue to cooperate through the US-India drug policy framework. It was stated that the People's Republic of China (PRC) continues to be the world's largest producer of precursor chemicals used in the production of fentanyl, methamphetamine (stimulant), and other deadly synthetic drugs. The countries designated as major transit or major drug-producing countries include Afghanistan, Bahamas, Belize, Bolivia, Myanmar, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Laos, Mexico, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela.
