Cambodia: New Home Donated to Fallen Soldier's Family

In Baray district, Kampong Thom province, Cambodia, the family of a fallen soldier has received a new home through the generous donation of Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen and his wife, Bun Rany Hun Sen. This marks the 45th house to be provided to veteran families in Baray district as part of the Cambodian Veterans Association's initiatives. The handover ceremony took place on the afternoon of September 7, 2026, led by Major General Som Son, Deputy Commander of the Regional Military Operations Area and Chairman of the Secretariat of the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association for Kampong Thom Province. He was accompanied by Mr. Koe Salem, Deputy Governor of Baray district, representing Mr. Khun Chanthei, Governor of Baray district and Chairman of the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association Committee for Baray district. The recipient family is that of Mrs. Phok Rim, widow of Mr. Thuk Yang, who served in the army in 1984 and was martyred in combat that same year. Mrs. Rim currently lives with her six children and grandchildren and faces significant financial hardship. The newly constructed house measures 5 meters by 7 meters, featuring a reinforced concrete structure, a galvanized iron sheet roof, smart board walls, and wooden flooring. It also includes a 3-meter kitchen extension at the rear and a sanitary toilet. During the ceremony, Major General Som Son also presented the family with food supplies, daily necessities, and cash, which were donations from Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and his spouse. Mrs. Rim expressed her profound gratitude for the assistance, offering her blessings to the donors and leaders of the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association. This housing support initiative is part of the Cambodian government's social welfare policies, with a particular focus on supporting veterans and their families who have served the nation.
