Metro Pacific Water to Invest P23 Billion for Infrastructure Upgrade
Metro Pacific Water (MPW) plans to invest P23 billion over the next five years to upgrade its water infrastructure in the Philippines and Vietnam. The investment will focus on developing new water sources, improving distribution networks, and reducing non-revenue water to enhance water security.
Metro Pacific Water (MPW), a unit of Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Investments Corp., is set to invest P23 billion over the next five years to enhance its water service portfolio in the Philippines and Vietnam. The investment aims to support projects including the development of new water sources, improvements in water treatment and distribution infrastructure, and the rehabilitation of existing networks. Key initiatives will also focus on reducing non-revenue water, repairing pipelines, and investing in technologies designed to boost the reliability and efficiency of water systems. "Water security is economic security, and this P23 billion investment is our commitment to building the infrastructure the next generation will depend on," said MPW president and CEO Andrew Pangilinan. Pangilinan added that the investment would improve MPW's capacity to expand and pursue new opportunities for stronger regional water operations across Southeast Asia. He highlighted that the company's cross-country experience allows it to combine local operating knowledge with technologies and solutions deployable across different markets. The renewed investment coincides with MPW's 15th anniversary. Established in 2011, the company has evolved from a water investment platform into a diversified water infrastructure and services provider. Its subsidiary, Metro Pacific Water Solutions (MPWS), also supports the company's expansion into wastewater treatment, engineering, and innovative water technology solutions, having completed over 700 sewage treatment plant projects nationwide. MPW's total installed water production and treatment capacity has reached 798 million liters per day, a 20 percent increase from 667 million liters per day last year. The company has been deploying innovative modular treatment technologies, such as brackish water reverse osmosis and seawater reverse osmosis systems, to augment supply in areas facing scarcity or poor raw water quality. This allows for faster development of additional sources while longer-term infrastructure projects are underway. The company currently serves approximately 221,000 households across Iloilo, Dumaguete, and San Jose del Monte in Bulacan. It also operates as a bulk water supplier through joint venture partnerships with local water districts in Iloilo and Cagayan de Oro. Overseas, MPW provides water to industrial zones in Nghe An, Vietnam's largest province, through its subsidiaries Tuan Loc Water Resources Investment Joint Stock Co. and Phu Ninh Water.
