South Korean University Encourages Cambodian Students to Study Advanced Tech and Agriculture

Ambassador Kuon Ponneath of Cambodia to the Republic of Korea met with Dr. O-Bong Yang, President of Jeonbuk National University (JNU), on September 7th at the university in Jeonbuk Province. During the meeting, Dr. Yang expressed his desire to see an increasing number of Cambodian students pursue specialized studies in fields such as semiconductors, physical AI, and agriculture at JNU. Jeonbuk National University is ranked third among national universities in South Korea and is particularly strong in the fields of semiconductors, physical AI, and agriculture. It also hosts the largest contingent of Cambodian students among all universities in South Korea. Dr. Yang noted that the university already has cooperative ties with some Cambodian universities and expressed a strong interest in expanding these collaborations with others. Ambassador Kuon thanked the university for providing educational opportunities, including scholarships and tuition support, for Cambodian students. He emphasized that semiconductors and physical AI are crucial fields for Cambodia's current economic development and future prospects, and he hopes to see more Cambodian students choose these specializations. The Ambassador invited Dr. Yang to visit Cambodia and assured him that the embassy would facilitate meetings with relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions during his visit. Following the meeting, Ambassador Kuon also met with approximately 70 Cambodian students currently studying at JNU. Most of these students are in the process of learning basic Korean before selecting their majors for the following academic year. The Ambassador reiterated that JNU's expertise in semiconductors and physical AI aligns with Cambodia's developmental needs and encouraged the students to consider these fields for their advanced studies.
