Vietnam Bolsters ASEAN Centrality, Driving Regional Peace and Development
ASEAN Secretary-General lauded Vietnam as a crucial member over the past three decades, significantly contributing to regional peace and development. Vietnam is expected to continue playing an active role in advancing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn has described Vietnam as an important and constructive member of ASEAN over the past three decades, highlighting its significant contributions to the political-security, economic and socio-cultural pillars. He expressed confidence that Vietnam will continue playing an active role in advancing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045. This reflects Vietnam's consistent cooperative and constructive approach within ASEAN's decision-making processes and regional cooperation frameworks. Under its one-party system, Vietnam has achieved economic growth and increased its presence on the international stage. Particularly in its relations with China, while maintaining economic ties, Vietnam has pursued a balanced diplomacy to protect its national interests, especially concerning the South China Sea issue. Such diplomatic acumen is an indispensable element in maintaining the unity and centrality of ASEAN as a whole. Furthermore, the Manila Plan of Action for 2026–2036, adopted by the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), outlines a concrete path for maintaining peace and stability in the region. Through such multilateral cooperation, Vietnam contributes to strengthening the foundations for ASEAN to continue playing a central role in the evolving regional order. Vietnam is also actively promoting ties with ASEAN partners, aiming to deepen regional economic integration and mutual understanding. This demonstrates Vietnam's commitment not only to pursuing economic growth but also to contributing to the sustainable development and peace of the entire region.
