Houses in Hpakant nearly submerged as water levels rise

Due to heavy rainfall, the water levels of the Uru and Khansi rivers have risen, causing significant flooding to reoccur in town wards such as Maw Wan, Mashi Kahtawng, Ngpyetaw, Aye Myat Thayar, Town Ma, and San Che Wat, as well as in areas like Lon Kin and Mamon San Pyar village, starting from yesterday (July 18), according to local residents. "Today, the 19th, is quite bad. The water rose from the morning, and now the roofs of houses at the Mashi Kahtawng intersection are submerged. That is our ward. It has been raining continuously from yesterday until today, it's scary," said a Hpakant town resident. There are also people trapped in the flooded wards, and many rescue operations are needed, according to a local resident. Another source said, "The water is rising up to the top floor. Only our compound is visible, as high as our compound. Even that compound is severely flooded," said a woman living on the road east of KBZ Bank in Ngpyetaw ward. In addition to flooding, landslides are also occurring, and there have been reports of houses collapsing and being damaged around the Kachin Traditional Office in Hpakant.
