Ilocos Sur Road Reopened After Rockslide

SAN ILDEFONSO, Ilocos Sur — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has declared a section of the Tagudin-Cervantes Road in Suyo town passable to all types of vehicles after clearing a rockslide that had blocked the route. In a road advisory issued Thursday evening, the Ilocos Sur 2nd District Engineering Office said the road is now accessible. The blockage had previously affected regional economic activities, particularly the transport of agricultural products and the daily lives of residents. The early restoration of traffic is expected to facilitate the smooth flow of goods, thereby boosting the local economy. Improved accessibility may also benefit tourism by making the area more reachable for visitors. Philippines, especially during the rainy season, is prone to natural disasters such as landslides and floods, raising concerns about infrastructure impacts.
