Cambodian Karatekas Secure 17 Medals at Vientiane Karate Open

A Cambodian karate delegation has returned home triumphant after securing a total of 17 medals, including 7 gold, 4 silver, and 6 bronze, at the Vientiane Karate Open held in Vientiane, Laos. The delegation, led by Chhean Sovannaroth, President of the Hanuman Karate Club and a member of the Cambodian Karate Federation, arrived back in the Kingdom on the afternoon of August 31st at Techo International Airport in Kandal Province. The team, which included Deputy Head Oknha Chhean Sovannaroth, President of the Reusmei Preah Athit Karate Club, coaches, and 19 karatekas representing Cambodia from the Hanuman and Reusmei Preah Athit clubs, had participated in the four-day competition from August 28th to 30th. Speaking about the achievement, Mr. Chhean Sovannaroth stated, "The athletes performed exceptionally well, winning 17 medals for the nation." He emphasized that the success demonstrated that Cambodian athletes are on par with their regional counterparts and that the medals were earned through both technical prowess and strong sportsmanship. The competition, hosted by Laos, featured participants from four countries and encompassed a wide range of age groups, from under-8 to adult competitors. The delegation head noted the significant progress made by Cambodian athletes compared to previous years, highlighting the value of participating in regional ASEAN-level international tournaments. He expressed deep gratitude to the Cambodian Karate Federation for providing the opportunity for the two clubs' athletes to enhance their technical skills and achieve these victories. Looking ahead, Mr. Chhean Sovannaroth encouraged the athletes to continue their rigorous training to further sharpen their skills, in preparation for the upcoming ASEAN University Games in 2028, for which Cambodia will be the host nation.
