Vietnam Enhances Cybersecurity for Journalists in the Digital Era
Vietnam's Department of Press, under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, organized a cybersecurity training for journalists in Can Tho City in 2026. The event highlights the growing need for secure journalistic practices and digital sovereignty amidst rapid technological advancement.
On July 30, 2026, the Department of Press, under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, organized a training workshop on information security for journalists in the digital environment in Can Tho City. The training aims to equip journalists with the knowledge and skills to address the information security challenges they face in a rapidly digitizing society. In today's media landscape, online platforms are the primary channels for information dissemination and reception, but they also come with increased risks of cyberattacks and data breaches. Vietnam is actively promoting national digital transformation (DX), and ensuring information security in cyberspace is fundamental to the nation's credibility and digital sovereignty. Journalists operating at the forefront of this transformation are crucial for providing accurate information to the public and establishing Vietnam's cultural identity in the digital space. Against this backdrop, the workshop provides journalists with an opportunity to learn practical methods and understand the latest threats to protect themselves from cyberattacks, safeguard sensitive information, and continue their reliable reporting. Discussions also covered the construction of Vietnam's cultural sovereignty and identity in cyberspace. Under Vietnam's one-party system, the government prioritizes information control and social stability, with media activities overseen by the state. While digitalization rapidly expands the reach and speed of information dissemination, it also presents new information management challenges for the government. Enhancing cybersecurity for journalists is a critical initiative to maintain the integrity of information flow and protect citizens' right to know amidst these complex dynamics. Furthermore, as Vietnam continues its economic growth and strengthens international cooperation, improving cybersecurity is also an essential element for gaining international trust.
