French Teacher Arrested for Working Without Permit in Rayong

RAYONG — Rayong Provincial Employment Office officials have arrested a French language teacher for allegedly working without a valid work permit at a language school located within a major shopping mall in the province. The arrest occurred as part of a broader crackdown on illegal foreign employment across the country. Officials from the employment office's division responsible for inspecting foreign workers and protecting job seekers conducted surprise inspections at two language schools situated in prominent shopping centers. During the inspection of the first school, seven employees—four Thai nationals and three South Africans—were found to be working, with all their documents and work permits confirmed to be in order. However, at the second school, five employees were present, consisting of three Thai nationals, one Bangladeshi national, and one French national. The French language teacher was unable to produce a valid work permit when requested by the officials. Consequently, the French national was charged with working as a foreigner without a work permit, a violation of Thailand's laws governing the employment of foreign workers. The employer of the French national is also facing charges for hiring a foreign national without the necessary work permit. The arrested French national has been handed over to investigators at Muang Rayong Police Station for further legal proceedings.
