Thousands of Phones, Computer Parts Seized in Phnom Penh; No Scam Links Found

On September 9, 2026, a joint force from the Phnom Penh Capital Administration Command conducted a search of a house located at House No. 147DZ, Street 192Z, Group 23, Village 9, Sangkat Toul Kork 3, Khan Toul Kork, Phnom Penh. During the operation, seven boxes containing 1,145 mobile phones and sixteen boxes containing 471 computer parts were discovered. In total, 1,616 items were seized. The operation was carried out under the direct order of Mr. Khuong Sreng, Governor of Phnom Penh, and Lieutenant General Chuon Narin, Deputy Commissioner-General of National Police and Commissioner of Phnom Penh Municipal Police, led by Mr. Sok Penh Vuth, Deputy Governor of Phnom Penh, and Colonel Sim Piseth, Inspector of Khan Toul Kork Police. The legal procedures were facilitated by Mr. Tin Sochetra, Deputy Prosecutor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court. Specialist officials from the Anti-Technology Crimes Office examined the seized items and found no data related to online scamming (SCAM ONLINE). Following the inspection, the joint force decided to hand over the evidence and one individual named Sok Sopha-ny to the Economic Crimes Police Office of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police Headquarters for further questioning according to procedure. No other materials were confiscated, and the house was returned to its owner for management and safekeeping. This incident, part of Cambodia's efforts to combat cybercrime, has not yet revealed direct links to online scams. However, the presence of a large quantity of electronic devices suggests a potential breeding ground for technological offenses.
