Thailand Seeks to Boost Rice Exports to Malaysia, Discusses 700,000-Ton Target

Thailand's Ministry of Commerce has pushed for increased purchases of Thai rice during a meeting with Malaysia's state-owned grain corporation, BERNAS (Bernas Berhad). The meeting confirmed strengthened bilateral cooperation towards achieving this fiscal year's Thai rice export target of 700,000 tons. This engagement was part of Thailand's food security and export strategy. As a major rice exporting nation in Southeast Asia, supplying neighboring countries holds significant economic and strategic importance for Thailand. Malaysia is one of Thailand's key rice import partners, and BERNAS plays a central role in its grain market. It is presumed that the discussions involved urging BERNAS to further procure Thai rice and exchanging information regarding quality and supply systems.
