USS Abraham Lincoln Thanks Thailand, Hopes to Return to Pattaya

The USS Abraham Lincoln hosted an appreciation party in Pattaya on September 4 to thank Thai authorities for helping provide security and hospitality for thousands of US Navy personnel during the aircraft carrier’s visit to Chonburi. The event was held at the Renaissance Pattaya Resort & Spa and brought together representatives from the Royal Thai Police, the US Embassy in Thailand and other agencies involved in security and arrangements for the sailors while they were ashore in Pattaya and surrounding areas. Chonburi Governor Naris Niramaiwong and Pattaya Mayor Poramet Ngampichet also attended the gathering and joined officials in welcoming the US delegation. The appreciation event recognized Thai security agencies and other authorities for their coordinated efforts to keep the sailors safe and assist them during their shore leave, sightseeing and recreational activities in Pattaya and Chonburi. USS Abraham Lincoln commander Capt. Dan Keeler said the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier had been berthed at Laem Chabang Deep Sea Port from September 2 to 6, giving its crew an opportunity to rest before continuing its journey back to the United States. Keeler expressed his appreciation for the welcome received by the ship’s personnel throughout their stay in Thailand, particularly from Chonburi and Pattaya. He thanked Thai authorities and everyone involved for providing what he described as excellent care and assistance from the moment the sailors arrived. The commander said he had been impressed by the hospitality shown during the visit and expressed hope that he would have an opportunity to bring the crew back to Thailand and Pattaya again in the near future. The five-day port visit brought thousands of US Navy personnel into Pattaya and surrounding areas, with sailors spending their shore leave dining, shopping, sightseeing and enjoying the city’s entertainment venues. The visit also generated noticeable activity for local businesses, particularly hotels, restaurants, shopping centers, transport operators and entertainment venues. For Pattaya, the visit provided a reminder of the city’s long-standing connection with visiting US military personnel, while also highlighting the importance of maintaining strong international relationships and ensuring the city remains a welcoming and safe destination for foreign visitors. The USS Abraham Lincoln is scheduled to depart Laem Chabang on September 6, bringing its Pattaya-area visit to an end after five days in Chonburi.
