Thailand Advances Integrated Energy Management with Rooftop Solar and BESS
Thailand's Electricity Generating Authority (EGAT) is collaborating with the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) and partners to develop innovative rooftop solar power and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solutions for integrated energy management, aiming to boost energy independence and renewable energy adoption.
The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), in collaboration with the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) and various partner companies, has initiated the development of comprehensive energy management solutions integrating rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This project is expected to promote the utilization of renewable energy within Thailand, aiming to stabilize energy supply and enhance energy self-sufficiency. EGAT, as a state-owned enterprise that has been the backbone of Thailand's power supply, is actively investing in and developing technologies in the renewable energy sector. This partnership with DEDE and private enterprises aims to consolidate EGAT's expertise in power infrastructure with the solar power and BESS technologies of its partners to build a more efficient and sustainable energy management system. Rooftop solar power offers the advantage of not requiring new land, as it utilizes the existing roof spaces of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. By combining this with BESS, electricity generated from solar power can be stored and utilized during nighttime hours with limited sunlight or during periods of high electricity demand. This is anticipated to reduce the load on the power grid and improve the reliability of power supply. This initiative is also positioned as part of the Thai government's "Thailand 4.0" strategy, aligning with national energy policies that aim to build smart grids utilizing digital technologies and improve energy efficiency. Through this innovative solution, EGAT plans to drive the modernization of Thailand's energy sector and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society. Source: MGR Online (Business)
