Senator Rodante Marcoleta will remain under isolation even after his transfer to the male dormitory of Quezon City Jail in Payatas, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Thursday. Police Colonel John Guiagui, Regional Chief of the PNP-CIDG National Capital Region, said the Sandiganbayan Third Division also ordered Marcoleta’s continuous isolation to manage his medical condition after he experienced symptoms for mild pneumonia. “Kahapon ang order ng [Sandiganbayan] Third Division is continuous isolation and meron naman…visitation doon. May inspection sila doon at ipinakita ‘yung kaniyang sariling kuwarto. So as of now, siya lang ‘yung nandoon,” Guiagui said. (The Sandiganbayan Third Division ordered his continuous isolation. The senator was transferred to the male dormitory of Quezon City Jail in Payatas on Wednesday morning after the anti-graft court issued a commitment order in connection with a plunder case filed against him. Marcoleta was apprehended after the Sandiganbayan issued an arrest warrant in connection with the P75-million plunder case filed against him over the undeclared campaign donation that the lawmaker received for his 2025 senatorial bid. According to Guiagui, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) assured Marcoleta of medical assistance and said there will be no special treatment for the lawmaker. “Meron silang… medical assistance doon at kung kinakailangan ay puwede silang, ‘yung family niya kung may mga gamot na kailangan na wala doon is dadalhin ng kaniyang family,” he said. (They have doctors there so he will be given medical assistance. His family may also visit him in case he needs medicine that is not available in the facility.) Philippine General Hospital Director Dr. Gerardo Legaspi earlier said the senator does not need to be hospitalized as his condition has improved.
