Thailand Accelerates Smart Pier Development, Budgeting 200 Million Baht for 13 Piers

Thailand's Ministry of Transport is set to accelerate the development of Smart Piers, which are envisioned as major water transportation hubs across the country. The ministry plans to allocate a budget of 200 million baht (approximately 800 million yen) for the 2026-2027 fiscal year to complete the Smart Pier construction for 13 existing piers. This project is expected to significantly enhance the convenience of water transportation, contributing to increased tourist arrivals and the revitalization of the regional economy. Smart Piers are conceptualized not merely as ferry terminals but as multi-functional hubs equipped with digital technologies for information provision, payment systems, and Wi-Fi connectivity. This will enable passengers to enjoy a smoother and more comfortable travel experience. Furthermore, the initiative aims to improve the aesthetic appeal of port areas and strengthen collaboration with surrounding communities.
