Vietnam Astrophysics School Nurtures Young International Scientists

Held annually since 2013, the Vietnam School on Astrophysics was established by the Rencontres du Vietnam Association and ICISE to train, mentor, and inspire young scientists pursuing astronomy and astrophysics. Over the past decade, it has developed into a respected academic forum, helping strengthen Vietnam’s scientific workforce, promote scholarly exchange, and deepen collaboration between Vietnamese researchers and the international scientific community. Vietnam has been increasing its international presence in science and technology in recent years, and initiatives like the astrophysics school play a crucial role not only in elevating the country's scientific research level but also in fostering international cooperation. This reflects Vietnam's recognition of the importance of human resource development and international collaboration in its pursuit of becoming a science and technology nation. Under its one-party system, Vietnam views the development of science and technology as a key pillar for national modernization and economic growth, with the government expanding investments in research and development. International programs such as the astrophysics school can be seen as part of these government policies to promote science and technology. Furthermore, while Vietnam has a high economic dependence on China, it is diversifying its international relations by balancing security concerns. International cooperation in science and technology is also considered to be linked with such diplomatic strategies, contributing to Vietnam's enhanced international standing.
