Thai PM Visits Indonesia After 15 Years, Roadmap 2026-2030 Adopted

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has made an official visit to Indonesia, marking the first such visit by a Thai leader in 15 years. During a joint press statement with President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Prabowo highlighted the significance of the visit, emphasizing that both Indonesia and Thailand are founding members of ASEAN and possess substantial economies within Southeast Asia. He stated that the relationship between the two nations greatly influences the regional situation. This meeting also served as the Second Leaders' Consultation between Indonesia and Thailand since the two countries elevated their bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership last year. A key outcome of the visit was the adoption of the Indonesia-Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2026-2030, which will guide future bilateral cooperation. Discussions covered bilateral, regional, and global issues. Beyond the roadmap, both countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of education, aimed at strengthening human resource development cooperation. Additionally, private sector agreements were noted, including an MoU between the Tourism Authority of Thailand and TransNusa for tourism and connectivity, and another between Bio Aksel and Pro Konsilium for an organic waste processing project. Prabowo also expressed his appreciation for an honor mark from the Thai Armed Forces, viewing it as a reflection of trust, friendship, mutual respect, and the close relationship between Indonesia and Thailand.
