Nearly 200 consumer complaints in five months

It has been learned from the Myanmar Consumers Protection Commission that there were 197 consumer complaints in the five months from January to May of 2026. It is said that 149 of these complaints have already been resolved, and 48 complaints remain to be resolved. It has also been learned that 589 inspectors have been appointed in Nay Pyi Taw, regions, and states to carry out market surveillance and inspection activities in accordance with the law. Furthermore, it is said that inspections are being carried out to determine whether the goods in the market are safe and whether they comply with the provisions regarding product labeling. Union Minister U Htun Ohn of the Ministry of Commerce and Trade stated at the Myanmar Consumers Protection Commission coordination meeting held on June 30 that business entrepreneurs should strive to produce better products in accordance with the specifications. Union Minister U Htun Ohn also stated that since the improvement of the average life expectancy of the people and the development of healthy and strong human resources are key sectors in nation-building, the consumer protection sector should cooperate in the healthcare services sector, and that more effective cooperation should be carried out between relevant government departments and organizations in implementing consumer protection activities in Myanmar.
