Northern Thailand Establishes Joint Task Force for Flood and Drought Preparedness, Monitoring 1,363 High-Risk Areas

The Thai government has established a joint task force to prepare for floods and droughts in the northern region. The task force is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Yuthachanan Wongsa-wat. According to reports, 1,363 flood-prone areas and 444 areas at risk of drought have been identified in the northern region, necessitating comprehensive measures. The establishment of this joint task force is in line with the Prime Minister's Office order dated July 14, 2029, aiming to enhance disaster management at the regional level for prompt and effective response. Deputy Prime Minister Yuthachanan has been appointed chairman of the committee overseeing disaster response in the North, alongside representatives from key ministries, provincial governors, security agencies, and related organizations. The task force's primary mission is to coordinate and integrate the efforts of all sectors, covering preparedness, situation monitoring, emergency management, relief and rehabilitation of affected individuals, and post-disaster recovery. This aims to ensure swift and efficient assistance to the public, minimizing the impact of floods and droughts. Furthermore, the task force holds the authority to supervise and direct the operations of government agencies in the area, continuously assess the situation, and report to the government. It will also facilitate accurate information dissemination and the engagement of experts and relevant organizations as needed.
