Ho Chi Minh City Requests Police Action Against Misinformation on School Admissions

The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has sent an official dispatch to the Ho Chi Minh City Police requesting cooperation in handling inaccurate information about the primary school admission process circulating on social media. According to the Department, the admission process for the 2026-2027 academic year is currently proceeding as planned at the ward and commune levels, in accordance with the city People's Committee's plan. The Department, along with local authorities, is actively implementing the steps according to the established procedures, ensuring transparency and adherence to regulations. However, recently, numerous inaccurate and unverified information regarding the admission process for the 2026-2027 academic year has appeared and spread across various Facebook pages and groups, often under the guise of parent associations or city-wide parent communities. These include content related to the application submission process and school assignment policies. More concerningly, some pages and groups have posted misleading content, advising parents not to accept school assignments based on their residential areas and calling for large gatherings at local People's Committee offices to exert pressure, potentially threatening local security and order. This situation has led to worrying consequences. Specifically, it has created anxiety and a lack of clear direction among a segment of parents and students, resulting in non-cooperation or delays in completing admission registration procedures as required. This, in turn, complicates the process of receiving applications at educational institutions and places significant pressure on People's Committee officials and school staff to handle unjustified requests for reassignment, affecting the progress and quality of the admission plan. Furthermore, some schools have failed to enroll the planned number of students because parents have refused admission, disrupting class organization and teacher allocation, and directly impacting the implementation of the 2026-2027 academic year plan. This situation also erodes public trust in the education sector and local authorities, and hinders the sector's goals for online student registration, posing a potential risk to security and order if not promptly addressed. In light of these issues, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has requested the Ho Chi Minh City Police to coordinate in reviewing, monitoring, and verifying the social media pages, groups, and individual accounts that are publishing and sharing inaccurate information related to the primary school admission process in the city. The Department also requested the Police to direct specialized forces and local police to enhance security and order, closely coordinate with ward-level People's Committees at admission reception points during peak periods, and continuously monitor the situation to promptly support and resolve emerging issues, ensuring that the 2026-2027 primary school admission process proceeds safely, orderly, and continuously.
