Dengue Cases in Zamboanga City Surpass 2,400

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur – Dengue cases in Zamboanga City have reached 2,413 from January 1 to August 29, following the addition of 80 new cases recorded during morbidity week 34 from August 23–29, the Zamboanga City Health Office (CHO) reported. The death toll stands at 17, though no fatalities were recorded during the latest reporting period. The surge in cases highlights ongoing public health challenges in the Philippines, particularly in urban areas prone to mosquito-borne diseases. Dengue fever, transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, can lead to severe illness if not managed properly. The CHO is urging residents to take preventive measures, including eliminating mosquito breeding sites and using insect repellent. Early medical consultation is also advised for individuals experiencing symptoms such as fever. This outbreak underscores the importance of robust public health initiatives and community engagement in combating vector-borne diseases, especially as the country experiences its rainy season, which typically sees an increase in mosquito populations.
