Quang Tri Province's New Leaders Request No Congratulatory Visits

In Vietnam's central province of Quang Tri, newly appointed leaders have made an unusual request to forgo ceremonial congratulatory events following their appointments. On September 21, Vuong Quoc Tuan, formerly Chairman of the Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee, was appointed as the Party Secretary of Quang Tri Province. After assuming his duties, the Provincial Party Committee Office issued a notice to provincial departments, agencies, and all communes, towns, and special administrative zones, requesting them not to organize delegation visits or present flowers to congratulate the new Party Secretary. The notice conveyed the new Party Secretary's gratitude for the attention from various agencies and localities. The measure aims to implement regulations on thrift, prevent waste, avoid formality, and dedicate time to public work. Instead of visits, units are urged to focus on their tasks and enhance coordination to achieve the province's objectives. On the same day, Bui Hoang Phuong was assigned as Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and elected as Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee. A day after his election, the Provincial People's Committee Office also issued a similar notice requesting that delegations refrain from visiting and presenting flowers. Alongside thanks for the attention shown to the new Chairman, the notice pointed out that such visits could affect the time allocated for resolving work. Units were advised to demonstrate their support by innovating their operational methods, coordinating closely, and fulfilling their assigned duties. Immediately after taking office, the two provincial leaders, along with deputy chairmen and representatives from departments and localities, inspected the progress of the Quang Trach Power Center at the Hon La Economic Zone. According to Vietnam Electricity (EVN), most of the project's land has been cleared, but the road from the national highway to the power center and the freshwater pipeline require continued efforts from the local authorities to resolve outstanding issues. Party Secretary Vuong Quoc Tuan demanded that the clean land handover to investors be completed by October 15 at the latest. He also requested EVN to approve the feasibility study report for the Quang Trach LNG Power Plant III within the fourth quarter of 2026. Chairman Bui Hoang Phuong urged EVN to expedite construction to bring the projects online according to schedule, and relevant departments and agencies were tasked with promptly resolving difficulties within their purview. In the afternoon of the same day, the delegation inspected the area prepared for the U Bo Mountain - Thac Chuoi Lake ecological tourism, resort, and entertainment complex. The project, spanning over 167 hectares, received provincial approval for its investment policy in March 2026. Departments were instructed to finalize legal procedures and coordinate with the investor to aim for a groundbreaking on October 30.
