An event to raise awareness about human trafficking prevention was held in Nghe An province, central Vietnam, in coordination with the British Embassy and Vinh University. Over 500 representatives attended, including delegates from management agencies, international organizations, civil society organizations, lecturers, and students. The event aimed to enhance community awareness, especially among youth and adolescents, regarding the risks of human trafficking, and to encourage young people to proactively protect themselves and their communities from this type of crime. As part of the program, students from Vinh University participated in various interactive activities such as skits, quick quizzes, artistic performances, and competitions to deepen knowledge about safe migration, identifying fraud schemes, and the risks of human trafficking. These activities were designed in a visual and engaging format to help young people easily understand and remember the necessary skills for self-protection. The program was jointly organized by the Ministry of Public Security, the People's Committee of Nghe An province, the Nghe An Provincial Police, and Vinh University. Speaking at the event, Mr. Charles Han, Head of Immigration and Migration at the British Embassy in Vietnam, stated that the UK recognizes the growing scale and seriousness of human trafficking crime and is committed to continuing close cooperation with Vietnam in combating it. According to Mr. Han, since 2018, the UK government has funded over £7 million for anti-human trafficking programs in Vietnam and will continue to provide support until 2029. In addition to strengthening cooperation with Vietnamese authorities to dismantle organized crime networks and prevent exploitation, the UK also focuses on identifying, recognizing, supporting, and protecting victims. This event is part of a series of activities by the British Embassy to mark the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons (July 30), reaffirming the commitment to cooperation between the UK and Vietnam in preventing human trafficking and promoting safe and legal migration. The cooperation between the two countries has been strengthened since 2018 through a Memorandum of Understanding on combating human trafficking. In recent years, both sides have intensified coordination and information sharing, implementing numerous activities to prevent criminal networks, protect vulnerable individuals, and enhance prevention effectiveness. According to the organizers, the theme for this year's World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is 'End exploitation. End trafficking. Fund the fight.', emphasizing the increasing threat from transnational criminal networks exploiting victims for large-scale online fraud operations. The trend of human trafficking for criminal purposes is on the rise, linked to cybercrime, financial fraud, money laundering, and corruption, requiring close cooperation between countries and active community participation in prevention efforts.
