Prime Minister Hun Manet has identified Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as "key drivers" for national economic growth and job creation for citizens. In a social media post on July 19, the Prime Minister welcomed public opinions in the spirit of "thinking together, acting together for the common interest of our Khmer nation." Past governments have continuously implemented policies and measures to promote the development of SMEs, and the current government in its seventh mandate has been taking additional measures to encourage and facilitate the establishment and operation of SMEs. The Prime Minister acknowledged that alongside many past achievements, challenges still exist that need to be addressed to further strengthen the SME sector. He specifically highlighted that SMEs' role is increasingly important in the current context where Cambodia needs to boost domestic production and substitute imports. To achieve this goal, the Prime Minister has assigned Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Aun Pornmoniroth, in his capacity as Chairman of the Economic Policy Committee, to lead the preparation and consideration of urgent and necessary additional measures to resolve challenges and encourage SMEs. In formulating policies and measures, the government has always conducted detailed studies and consulted with representatives from SMEs, the private sector, and relevant ministries and institutions to gather input. The Prime Minister reiterated his welcome for opinions from citizens, especially those operating in the SME sector, regarding the challenges faced by SMEs and their solutions, to enhance the effectiveness of problem-solving. These opinions will serve as crucial additional input for the government to implement more effective and targeted measures for SMEs. Source: AKP Khmer
