In New Delhi, anti-government protests led by students who claim to have been affected by the cancellation of exam results due to allegations of a leak in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and the CJP party are ongoing. Protesters are demanding the resignation of the Education Minister and clashed with police when they attempted to march to the Indian Parliament session, which began on July 20. Security forces also blocked roads and dispersed crowds. "As protests intensify and the political situation becomes more tense, Myanmar refugees in Delhi need to be especially careful. We want them to avoid protest sites and crowded places as much as possible," a Myanmar community official told Mizzima. According to current reports, tensions are high between protesters and security forces in areas such as central New Delhi, Parliament, India Gate, Connaught Place, Jantar Mantar, near Pata Choke, and Janpath. He urged people not to go to these areas as at least five metro stations in the city center have been temporarily closed. He advised that if travel is unavoidable, they should carry their UNHCR refugee identification card, inform family members or acquaintances of their destination in advance, and inquire about road closures and security situations from local authorities. Despite the ongoing protests, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has not yet issued a separate security advisory for Myanmar refugees. After the police crackdown on education protests, Congress party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi also participated in the protests and were temporarily detained on July 21. Subsequently, the protests spread to other states. Furthermore, Indian media reports indicate that protests could intensify further as farmers from the neighboring state of Punjab are marching to Delhi to support the student protests. Approximately 12,000 Myanmar refugees reside in New Delhi. They do not receive regular support from the Indian government or UNHCR and are earning a living by working in restaurants, daily wage jobs, small factories, and translation services.
