Lai Châu Province Advances Civilization by Eradicating Harmful Customs, Preserving Cultural Heritage

Lai Châu Province in northern Vietnam has undergone significant transformations over nearly three years of implementing Resolution No. 15-NQ/TU on eradicating harmful customs and building civilized lifestyles. The province has deployed practical models that contribute to changing residents' awareness and behavior while preserving valuable traditional cultural heritages. Notable initiatives include the upcoming national intangible cultural heritage recognition in 2025 for the tradition of blackening teeth, a cultural highlight of the Lao people in Lai Châu, also attracting attention as a tourism resource. The Mảng ethnic group's chin tattooing and the Thái people's traditional khăn Piêu scarves are also recognized as important elements of local culture, with efforts underway for their preservation and transmission. Individuals dedicated to preserving the culture of the Pú Nả ethnic group are also active in their communities. These efforts represent an attempt to harmonize Vietnam's socialist values, promoted under its one-party system, with the diverse local cultural heritages. In a country experiencing continuous economic growth, protecting local cultural heritage while advancing civilization across society is crucial for improving the quality of life for its citizens.
