Hun Sen Pledges 102 Homes for Veterans and Retirees in Preah Vihear
Senate President Hun Sen announced the donation of 102 homes to 102 veterans and retirees in Preah Vihear province who lack land and housing, as part of ongoing support efforts.
Senate President and President of the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, has announced the donation of 102 homes to 102 veterans and retirees in Preah Vihear province who lack land and housing. This new housing initiative was announced during a meeting with provincial council members, district, town, commune, and village leaders, as well as heads of various ministries and units in Preah Vihear province on the morning of July 10, 2026. The construction of these 102 homes will be funded in part by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, who is donating 52 houses, with the remaining 50 houses supported by Mr. Phen Phalla, personal assistant to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, and his wife, Oknha Say Sophear. The construction process will be overseen by His Excellency Kun Kim, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association. According to a report from Mr. Kim Rithy, Governor of Preah Vihear Province, as of June 2026, the province has a total of 3,155 veterans and retirees. Among them, 102 are living in poverty, with 73 families lacking both land and housing, and 29 having land but no housing. Previously, from 2016 to 2026, a total of 109 homes, donated by Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Samdech Kittipol Bun Rany Hun Sen, were built for veterans who are members of the provincial association. These were constructed on a 3-hectare social land concession in Pal Hal village, Preah Vihear city. During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen also instructed leaders and officials in Preah Vihear province to continue providing financial and material support to families of soldiers on border duty, fallen or disabled soldiers, and veterans and retirees in difficult circumstances. He also encouraged them to visit and offer comfort to those who have retired and to promote education and vocational training for the children of soldiers and veterans to foster them as intellectuals for the nation. Furthermore, Samdech Techo Hun Sen reiterated that over 24,000 retirees from the education sector can automatically become members of the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association, with the exception of active teachers. He clarified that while the Ministry of Education has its own association, the Khmer Education Personnel Association, all retired civil servants in education can join the Veterans and Retirees Association without a formal application.
