Army Assesses Polling Precincts for Bangsamoro Elections in Lanao del Sur

The Philippine Army has commenced the assessment of polling precincts in the second district of Lanao del Sur in preparation for the historic parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), a military official said on Sunday. Brig. Gen. Yasser Bara, commander of the 101st Infantry Brigade based in Malabang, Lanao del Sur, said a joint inspection with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the local government units had been conducted in 18 municipalities recently. This was in line with the preparations for the first Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE) which will take place on September 14. READ: Army deploys battalion for BARMM election security He noted that the inspection aims to determine the conditions and needs of polling centers for the conduct of a conducive, peaceful and orderly elections. The next round of inspection will be done on Monday, July 27, to firm up the election preparation process, Bara told the Inquirer on the phone. Bara said they are expecting more troops from the 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division to augment his battalion, citing the earlier commitment from division commander Maj. Gen. Yegor Rey Barroquillo Jr. According to him, there have been no reported threats, so far, from lawless elements in the area. “The troops remain vigilant in securing the communities and in maintaining sustainable internal peace and security,” Bara said.
