Indonesian Ship Accident: Unregistered Passengers Raise Questions

In a ship accident off the coast of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, Indonesia, it has been revealed that 22 of the rescued passengers were not listed on the ship's manifest. The Banjarmasin Port and Harbor Authority (KSOP Banjarmasin) has launched an investigation into this discrepancy. Heri Purwanto, head of KSOP Banjarmasin, confirmed the difference between the number of passengers on the manifest and those actually rescued, stating that efforts are underway to reconcile the data. He noted that while the manifest data was provided by KSOP Surabaya, his office will thoroughly verify the discrepancies with the passenger list held on board. Regarding this gap between the manifest and actual passengers, Mr. Heri suggested a possibility that passengers might have used nicknames when purchasing tickets and their full names as per their KTP (National Identity Card) during the evacuation. However, he acknowledged that errors during data entry cannot be ruled out and indicated that they will continue to coordinate with KSOP Surabaya to determine the cause. In this incident, 22 out of the 108 passengers rescued on the first day were not on the manifest. Nevertheless, these passengers received evacuation assistance, temporary shelter, and medical care.
