Meters over 20 years old to be replaced and new meters installed to reduce electricity theft

It is known that the replacement of meters that have been in use for over 20 years and the installation of meters for those who wish to use new meters are being carried out to reduce and eradicate electricity theft. It is known that the Ministry of Electricity and Energy is currently accelerating the replacement of meters with declining performance and meters that have been in use for over 20 years, as well as the rapid installation of meters for those who wish to use new meters, in order to reduce and eradicate electricity theft. Union Minister for Electricity and Energy U Ko Ko Lwin visited and inspected the Meter Testing and Inspection Branch, where meters are being sealed for security before being distributed to the public who will use digital smart meters in Dakhinathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw Council Territory, the AMI Control Center, which monitors electricity consumption in real-time, and the National Control Center at the Power Distribution Control Branch (Nay Pyi Taw). In the electricity distribution sector of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy, approximately 10.7 million units, or 15.6 percent of the daily power transmission, are being lost, resulting in a daily national loss of over 2.75 billion kyats on average. Consequently, the upgrading of electricity infrastructure has not been fully implemented, and the public who wish to use electricity are also losing opportunities to do so. Therefore, the Ministry of Electricity and Energy is making concerted efforts to increase electricity generation, reduce electricity loss, and ensure stable power distribution throughout the country.
