Cambodia's Council for the Development of Cambodia and China's Wuxi City have agreed to strengthen investment cooperation and the development of the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone. China pledged further investment in Cambodia and contributions to supply chain stability.
Mr. Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Investment Committee of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), met with a delegation led by Mr. Zhou Wendong, Deputy Mayor of Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, People's Republic of China, on July 31, 2026, to discuss investment cooperation and strengthening the development of the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Mr. Chea Vuthy warmly welcomed the Wuxi delegation and expressed his gratitude to the leaders and people of Wuxi City for their continuous efforts in promoting and supporting investors from Wuxi to invest in Cambodia, particularly in the Sihanoukville SEZ. He also highlighted the importance of accelerating the construction of the "Industrial and Technological Corridor" and the "Fisheries and Rice Corridor" to attract investment, noting that the Cambodian government is actively diversifying markets for its export products. Furthermore, Mr. Chea Vuthy requested the Deputy Mayor's support in further promoting the development and prosperity of the Sihanoukville SEZ. He expressed his strong hope that through this meeting, Wuxi City would continue to encourage additional investment in Cambodia, especially in the production of semi-finished goods and raw materials, thereby contributing to supply chain stability. In response, Mr. Zhou Wendong thanked the Secretary General for his valuable time. He also expressed gratitude to the Cambodian government, relevant ministries, local authorities, and the CDC for their consistent support of the Sihanoukville SEZ's operations, which has led to its gradual development. Mr. Zhou Wendong affirmed his commitment to further advancing the SEZ by encouraging Chinese investors, particularly from Jiangsu Province and Wuxi City, to invest in priority projects with high potential and leading-edge technology. He also mentioned that the current visit to Cambodia is linked to preparations for the 5th meeting of the Sihanoukville SEZ Coordination Committee, scheduled to be held in Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, China. Before concluding, Mr. Zhou Wendong presented several proposals aimed at further enhancing the development and attractiveness of the Sihanoukville SEZ.
