Gas Leak Explosion in HCMC Injures Two

Early on August 2, a major explosion caused by a gas leak occurred in a residential area in An Phu Dong Ward, District 12, Ho Chi Minh City, damaging three houses and injuring two people. Local media reported that around 4 a.m., residents heard a loud explosion coming from a house in an alley along Ha Huy Giap Street. Upon inspection, they found the corrugated iron roof of the house had been blown off, and a section of the wall had collapsed. An elderly person and a middle-aged man who fled the house sustained multiple injuries and were taken to the hospital by neighbors. The explosion affected three adjacent houses. Debris was scattered everywhere from the house where the explosion originated, and household items were in disarray. The two neighboring houses were also damaged, with their corrugated iron roofs warped. Nearby residents testified that the explosion's impact caused their home's doors and walls to shake violently, and their furniture to move. Mr. Do Dang Ai, Chairman of the An Phu Dong Ward People's Committee, stated that initial investigations revealed a gas leak from the hose of a gas cylinder at a resident's home, which had accumulated inside the house. The explosion was triggered by sparks generated when the homeowner turned on a water pump early in the morning. The two injured individuals sustained minor wounds and were discharged from the 175 Military Hospital after a health check-up.
