IndiGo Resumes Kolkata-Siem Reap Flights, Boosting Cambodia-India Tourism and Connectivity

IndiGo, a prominent Indian carrier, is set to resume direct flights between Kolkata and Siem Reap starting October 1, restoring a vital air link that is anticipated to bolster tourism, people-to-people exchanges, and commercial ties between Cambodia and India, officials confirmed Tuesday. The airline will operate three flights per week on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, connecting Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) with Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI). The services will be operated using Airbus A320neo aircraft, which have a capacity of 180 to 186 passengers. This route was initially launched in November 2025 but was temporarily suspended during Cambodia’s Green Season, a period typically characterized by lower travel demand. IndiGo announced in June that bookings for the route would reopen from October 1 as part of a broader restoration of several international services. Sinn Chansereyvutha, Secretary of State and spokesperson for the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), described the resumption as a positive development for Cambodia-India relations. He noted that it will significantly enhance convenience for tourists visiting the Angkor heritage area and its surrounding attractions. "During Green Season, the number of air travelers declines, and IndiGo temporarily suspended its service. However, the airline has now resumed operations, flying Kolkata–Siem Reap three times a week," he stated. Officials also highlighted that the restored air link is expected to facilitate exchanges among students, businesspeople, families, and cultural enthusiasts. Furthermore, it is anticipated to create opportunities for joint tourism promotion initiatives, collaborative travel packages, and educational tours. IndiGo was the first Indian airline to establish a direct connection between India and Cambodia when the route was inaugurated on November 13, 2025. The SSCA has assured that regular oversight mechanisms are in place to ensure Siem Reap Angkor International Airport is well-prepared to provide safe and reliable operations. Authorities have emphasized that the sustained success of this route hinges on consistent demand, dependable service, and proactive promotional efforts undertaken by both countries.
