Thai Government Drives Game Industry Towards Global Market, Securing Over 270 Million Baht in Negotiations
The Thai government is accelerating the global expansion of its game industry as part of its creative economy. Recent international events have resulted in potential deal values exceeding 270 million baht, with plans to host 'gamescom asia × Thailand Game Show' in Thailand in 2026 to establish it as a Southeast Asian gaming hub.
The Thai government is strongly promoting the global expansion of its domestic game industry as a growth sector within the creative economy. As part of this initiative, Thai game companies have achieved significant success on the international stage, securing potential deal values exceeding 270 million baht. In a recent example, the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) under the Ministry of Commerce led 15 Thai game companies to participate in "gamescom 2026," one of the world's largest game trade fairs held in Cologne, Germany. At this event, Thai companies showcased their game products to the European and global markets, demonstrating their potential. The result was a total potential deal value of 270,369,990 baht (approximately 8.19 million USD), comprising an immediate contract value of 40,590 baht and an expected contract value within one year of 270,329,400 baht. They also engaged with 994 target customers, of which 673 (67.71%) were new contacts. Building on this success, the Thai government plans to take further steps by hosting "gamescom asia × Thailand Game Show 2026" in Thailand from October 29 to November 1, 2026. This event aims to serve as a platform connecting game industry stakeholders, investors, and businesses from both Thailand and abroad, with the goal of positioning Thailand as a hub for the game industry in the Southeast Asian region. The government spokesperson emphasized that the success achieved at this international event proves the capability of Thai game developers to meet the demands of the global market. Moving forward, the government intends to leverage such international opportunities to enhance the competitiveness of the Thai game industry and solidify its position as a key regional hub.
