Thailand Accelerates Survey of Unnumbered Homes for National Disaster Insurance

The Thai government is accelerating the implementation of a national disaster insurance system targeting "unnumbered homes" to strengthen support for disaster victims. Approximately 490,000 households are expected to benefit from this insurance. According to the government spokesperson, the cabinet has approved the introduction of group housing insurance and group accident insurance, securing a budget of 15.5 billion baht for the purchase of insurance to protect citizens from disasters. This insurance covers three types of disasters: floods, storms, and earthquakes. 15 billion baht has been allocated to group housing insurance and 500 million baht to group accident insurance. The government is urgently surveying "unnumbered homes" based on data from the Department of Provincial Administration, Ministry of Interior. As of September 15, 2024, out of 29,812,688 households nationwide, 517,525 households have been surveyed, revealing that 491,453 households are unnumbered. Of these, 82,810 households are actually inhabited, and 1,377 households have already been removed. This survey is crucial for accurately identifying "who is where" during a disaster and enabling rapid assistance, especially for temporary residents or workers without registered addresses. The national disaster insurance system will cover damages from floods, storms, and earthquakes. The maximum compensation per household will be 100,000 baht, depending on the type of disaster and policy conditions. For flood damage, an initial compensation of 10,000 baht will be paid, with an additional up to 90,000 baht. For storm and earthquake damage, an initial compensation of 5,000 baht will be paid, with an additional up to 95,000 baht.
