Cambodia and Indonesia Deepen Security and ASEAN Cooperation

PHNOM PENH, Aug 3, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and Indonesia reaffirmed their commitment to closer cooperation on security and ASEAN affairs during a three‑day visit by Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Arif Havas Oegroseno, officials said. Oegroseno visited Cambodia from July 27 to 29 at the invitation of the government, the foreign ministry said in a statement. A highlight was his July 28 lecture at the ministry titled The Evolving Geopolitical Landscape: Global Dynamics, Regional Implications, and Cambodia–Indonesia Partnership. Addressing about 100 participants, including officials, diplomats and representatives of international organisations, he urged countries to strengthen diversification, resilience and regional cooperation in the face of complex geopolitical and geoeconomic challenges. He underlined the importance of maintaining ASEAN centrality in addressing regional issues. A subsequent discussion covered ASEAN’s role in peace and stability, the international order and the peaceful settlement of disputes. Later that day, Permanent Secretary of State Eat Sophea hosted a luncheon in his honour. Both sides welcomed the growth of their long‑standing friendship and looked ahead to the sixth Meeting of the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation, to be hosted by Indonesia. Oegroseno also met Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Sokha, and Senior Minister Chhay Sinarith, head of the Secretariat for Combating Online Scams. Talks focused on bilateral security cooperation, particularly tackling cybercrime. Cambodia and Indonesia have maintained diplomatic ties for more than six decades, cooperating across trade, investment, education, defence and regional affairs through ASEAN.
